«Working with love is to build a house with affection, even as if your
beloved were to dwell in that house».
Kahlil Gibran
Reflecting on the testimony of a member of the family of one of the
nurses who had committed suicide, in the CHUQ (2010) has received these words
on the part of one human resources
employee: «This is not the first who is
killed and won't be the last» I asked myself this question: Health without
ethics, it is health?** Is it human to die, get sick, suffer
injuries, and become physically handicapped to take care of another human being
or to produce?
Ethics, a branch of Philosophy devoted to the rational study of the
application of morality, virtue, duty, happiness and quality of life, must be
the basis of any human society.
Ethics should be present in the minds of its members, each family, each
institution, in its professionals and its leaders. To develop projects, laws,
companies, enterprises, to sell services, to make decisions and to interact
with people, we must build our behavior on these concepts, if we not reap
social chaos.
Ethics is a constant intellectual invitation. This science it involving
reflection by examining the professional behavior, placing participants in a
continuous space of introspection on their personal values, their personal
vision on life, on his profession and its relationship with the human.
Ethics leads us to wonder about the values and principles held by an
occupation and its approximation or distance with its own individual
personality. Then, this science studies the values and principles in a society.
Its usefulness lies in establishing a diagnosis, to face what is currently with
what it should be or should be, to encourage greater awareness to the need to
improve.
Update on bioethics is not a loss of time or money. On the contrary, it
means creating spaces interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary discussion which
would allow a more accurate approximation on the State of health or infirmity
of the workers in the field of health or any other economic sector. «Are
we born to work like animals? » questioned Benito Pérez Galdòs.
«Where
is the money that we have to win to be happy and enjoy; where is the money
which, after work, stay me for my personal taste, to escape, to live, to enjoy,
to dredge or here only one can survive? » singt Miguel
Cantilo.
The construction and strengthening of health teams in the hospital or
not, to discuss democratically on the Organization, quality of life, respect
for the human rights and civil rights begin first with enforcement workers and
then by clients.
Health begins with his house to then extend it to the neighbor's House.
The employee ceases to be a number and becomes a voice, expressing his
knowledge, psychological, moral and legal personality.
Take care of yourself, that is love; take care of hundreds , that's nurse care
Generally, bioethics is designed according to the customer, but it if
applies also to the health of workers in occupational health, medicine to work,
related professions at work, who by purpose improve or preserve health and
protect and improve the quality of life of workers in the workplace. Adjustments
in the conditions in which occurs the work, the reorganization of the work
itself, the number of staff that executes and the changes in the physical
environment can achieve these objectives.
In this sense, bioethics is identified with the objectives of the
International Organization (ILO), which makes proposals and is focused on the recommendations to improve the quality of life of workers, demonstrates
the poor working conditions, focuses on the importance that every human being
has access to decent work (DW)[1] concept framed by ethics and that seeks
social justice, competitive wages, gender equity, social security and training.
Nursing as a profession mainly composed by women, faces multiple risks,
which transform it into health profession with increased risks for lower-paid
and personal health in the field of health, even if it has the sympathy and
recognition of the public worldwide.
The time is vitally important in the life of a person, both as health
there. Around the time is structured and organized labour in eight hours after
the 19th century. Few scientific studies have been made taking into
account the time concepts, health and work during the 20th century, but most
agree that breaks, with additional breaks by five minutes, breaks pee breaks to
eat, increase productivity at work, reduce Visual discomfort, muscular-skeletal
and improves the mental health of employees[1]’[2]. The recommendations that emerged from research done
by Phd Angelo Soarez, among others, reveal that the health of the health staff
is severely affected by the mismanagement of human resources[3].
While women are tired more than men, who by their physical structure,
cannot perform considerable physical effort or lift weights, that we need to sleep more than men, that napping is
beneficial to health[1] , that logically one cannot live if past 8 hours at
work, 8-10 hours intended to sleep, live a life of family, career and social in
the short time that remains on 24 hours, a reduction of the workday to six
hours would be the best for all the employees[2].
About the breaks, can use the advice given by the University of Toronto[1] who says « 17 minutes pause for 52
minutes of work». And that relates to eat 30 minutes like it says ILO[2].
I opine that it can be used from same breaks best practices for intellectual
work[1], by making a slight adjustment: 55 minutes of work, 5
minute break for the first hour of work; as soon as the next few hours, 50
minutes of work, 10 minutes from break*** and to eat, 45 minutes.
The nursing workload, one that provides quality of service, the public
security, according to the powers granted by the level of education acquired,
do a job without stress, respecting the time for each technique, could arrange
as follows; one nurse, two nursing auxiliaries and two beneficiary attendants* to recipients
on 4 patients without the complexity of attention (without major health
complications)[1] . Three teams are led by a Bachelor's
degree in nursing and this depends on the head of unit responsible for its
shift. The recommendation of 1 nurse 4 patients is not gratitude new
International Council of nurses (CNI).
More complex care for the attention of a customer due to their State of
health, personal nurse will be necessary with the reduction of the number of
patients to load by a team. In digestive
surgery, for example, will be required two nurses, two auxiliary nurses and two
attendants to recipients on 4 patients, led by a Bachelor's degree. This
organization allows the delegation and participatory action of all members of
the care team nurse.
Out of love for our nurses, by love for our people, for the sake of us -
love to ourselves; let's take care of our health and that of the other. Change
the negative paradigm of selfishness and violence by a positive and ethical
paradigm. The paradigm brings the decent work which respects human dignity and
respect for the life. Change for better health for all, for more quality of
life. Change
at 6-housr Workday.

***People who are older need more following breaks
[1] In ethical or moral sense we call principle that practical judgement which derives immediately from acceptance of a value. The most basic value (the value of all human life, of every human being, i.e. its human dignity), is derived from the first and fundamental principle in which all others are based: the attitude of respect that it deserves by the mere fact of belonging to the human species, i.e., by their human dignity.
[2] Philosophical concept in opposition to the human individual.
[3] In knowledge about ourselves and opening of knowledge towards other human beings, we can recognize in US intelligence, will and freedom of man, features that form their human dignity and distance of other beings of nature. This singular value that is human dignity is presented as a call to the unconditional and absolute respect. A respect that should extend to all those who possess it: all human beings. For this reason, even in the case that society decided by consensus to fail to respect human dignity, this would still be a reality present in every citizen. Thus, if it unites society decides to discriminateagainst a group within it, relegated to a deal unworthy, denying access to work, education, persecuted, locked up in concentration camps or removed, this contempt would not change anything its immeasurable value in both than humans.By its very nature, by the same force of belonging to the human species, by its particular potential genetic - disease is only capable of hiding but that will resurface again if the individual receives timely therapeutic - every human being is in itself worthy and deserving of respect.
[4] Notion of decent work arises as a response to the growing vulnerability of the workers, mainly young people, women, the poor, indigenous, older adults and children. TD implies employment in quantity and quality, load appropriate work, decent and fair, work that includes respect for rights, adequate and equitable income, satisfactory working conditions, social protection, in the context of freedom of Association and social dialogue.
[5] In Canada, most provinces and Territories provide workers only a break for lunch (unpaid) half an hour after each period of five consecutive hours of work. According to the ILO - International Labour Office - among industrialized countries the Canada, the United States and New Zealand are the only countries that do not have pauses minimally regulated.
In Quebec, according to the law on labour (LNT) standards, the coffee break and pee breaks are not mandatory, but must be paid and included in the calculation of hours worked when they are granted by the employer. As in other provinces, the NTA is addressed only the 30 minute lunch, without pay, after a period of 5 consecutive hours for a meal. This period must be paid if the worker cannot work to eat.
